How to Mint an NFT: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

NFTs have cemented their place in the Web3 ecosystem, with exciting new collections launching every week. But getting your hands on the latest drops isn’t always easy…

That’s where the new Magic Eden Mint Terminal comes in.

Read on to learn how to mint NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon and Base with just a few clicks in this beginner’s guide.

Magically Easy NFT Minting: Introducing the Mint Terminal

We’ve launched Magic Eden Mint Terminal, an easy-to-use dashboard that aggregates over 20 minting platforms, so you’ll always know what’s up for grabs.

The best part?

It’s a one-stop minting shop.

On the Mint Terminal, you’ll see the latest NFT collections, how many have been minted recently, and filter by whether it’s free to mint or if there’s a fee.

You’ll also get details on how long the mint is running, the total supply and how many have already been minted. If it’s a free mint, you’ll still have to pay the network fee, but it’s usually pretty small.

The Basics of Minting an NFT

Minting an NFT is actually pretty simple, even if you’re a Web3 newbie.

All you need is a Web3 wallet like Magic Eden Wallet that supports NFTs, some crypto to pay for fees and the NFT you want to mint as well as a marketplace that allows you to mint the latest drops.

And here’s how it works:

You connect your wallet to an NFT marketplace, choose the NFT collection you want to mint, decide how many NFTs you want to mint and then pay for and confirm the transaction using your wallet.

When you mint an NFT from a new collection, it’s like opening a new pack of baseball cards and being the first to see what’s inside.

When you hit that "Mint" button, you’re basically uploading the token’s content (like artwork, a collectible or anything really) along with ownership details—in this case, yours.

And that’s it!

Now, let’s take a look at how you can mint NFTs on the Magic Eden Mint Terminal with just a few clicks.

How to Mint NFTs: A Step-by-Step Guide

Minting an NFT doesn’t have to be complicated, and if you’re on Magic Eden, you’re already halfway there!

If not, you’ll want to connect your wallet to the Magic Eden Mint Terminal. There’s plenty of choices but we recommend Magic Eden Wallet, of course.

If you’re creating a new wallet, make sure you remember your password, as there’s no “forgot password” option here. Once you’re connected, you’re ready to go.

Next, pick where you want to mint from these three chains: Ethereum, Base and Polygon.

Now, let’s jump into how you can mint an NFT on each one of them.

How to Mint an NFT on Ethereum

If you snap up Ethereum NFTs, just click the Ethereum logo at the top left of the Terminal (it’s the first one in the list), then find the NFT you’re after.

Once on the Ethereum Mint Terminal, he Live Feed option shows you the NFTs as they pop up, but if you hit the ‘Trending’ tab, you get more ways to search and filter. You can sort by price, minting style (open vs. limited edition) and even the minting platform they’re coming from.

Once you’ve found your NFT, checked out the details and are ready to add it to your collection, just click ‘Mint.’

After you confirm, it’ll be in your connected wallet in a matter of moments.

How to Mint an NFT on Base

Base, the popular Ethereum L2, is up next on the list.

To start minting a Base NFT, click the Base logo in the upper left corner of the Mint Terminal, just below the Magic Eden logo. This will show you all the NFTs you can mint on Base.

You’ve got a few ways to find your NFT. You can scroll through the list, filter by price (free or paid) or search by name using the bar at the top of the screen.

Click on the NFT to see all the details. Once you’re sure it’s the one you want, hit ‘Mint’.’

Finally, confirm the process in your connected wallet and boom—you’ve minted an NFT on Base!

How to Mint an NFT on Polygon

Polygon, another popular Ethereum L2, also has a burgeoning NFT community and, thanks to Polygon Mint Terminal, getting your own Polygon-based NFT takes just a few steps.

First, find the Polygon logo (it’s the middle one in the top left corner of the Mint Terminal) to make sure you’re only seeing Polygon NFTs.

Then, you can scroll, search or filter through the tokens available for minting. The minting price will be shown in Polygon’s POL (prev. MATIC) token, which also covers the gas fee. Once you’ve paid and confirmed everything, your new NFT will be in your wallet, ready to see the world.

And that’s how easy it is to mint NFTs on Magic Eden.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to mint an NFT?

By minting an NFT, you’re creating your unique token on a blockchain. Its basic settings are defined when a Creator launches an NFT collection, and minting one creates an actual, unique NFT. It gets its metadata, the accompanying artwork, and, of course, its ownership. Every NFT has its distinct identifier, so all NFTs you mint are entirely unique.

How much does it cost to mint an NFT?

The cost of minting an NFT depends on several factors. The first is the blockchain in question (as different chains have different fees), but fees will also vary based on how busy the network is. So, it might be smart to wait for a less busy time when fees drop. Also, keep in mind that NFTs take up more space than typical transactions, so this can come with a higher cost than a basic token transfer. And then, there’s how much the creators charge per NFT for the mint (unless, of course, it’s a free mint). Finally, if you’re planning to sell your NFT, most marketplaces charge extra for that, too.

Can you mint NFTs on Ethereum?

Yes, you can mint NFTs on Ethereum. This is actually the chain where NFTs initially gained traction. Ethereum is known for its robust security. To mint NFTs, you’ll need to pay gas fees in ETH, its native currency.

Can you mint NFTs on Solana?

Yes, it is possible to mint NFTs on Solana. This blockchain, known more for speed and low fees, is also a popular choice, as it is possible to deploy NFTs even with no code. Don’t forget to get some SOL, as you’ll have to pay the minting and processing fees in this token.

Can you mint NFTs on Base?

Yes. Base is a Layer 2 built on Ethereum and also allows you to mint NFTs. You can deploy and mint them there, as well as trade with other collectors on dedicated marketplaces. There are different approaches and costs associated with minting NFTs on Base, so be sure to do your research before choosing this network.

Can you mint NFTs on Polygon?

Yes, you can mint NFTs on Polygon. One cool thing about this blockchain is that its NFT Minter was redesigned in 2022 to be more intuitive and user-friendly. You can mint one at a time or in a batch—it’s up to you. You can even choose whether to keep your precious NFT for yourself or have the option to share it with someone special, like a buyer.

Can you mint NFTs on Bitcoin?

Yes, the biggest blockchain, Bitcoin, now also supports NFTs, known as Ordinals in the Bitcoin ecosystem! Thanks to the launch of the Ordinals protocol in 2023, you can now inscribe content on individual satoshis to create unique digital assets, akin to NFTs, on the Bitcoin blockchain. Magic Eden offers both minting and secondary buying and selling of Bitcoin Ordinals collections, so make sure to take a look.

Can I mint my own NFT?

Yes, anyone can mint their own NFT! If you want to create (and sell) your own NFTs, all you need to do is create the content for your collection, choose an NFT marketplace that allows you to mint and sell them and have enough cryptocurrency in your wallet to cover the minting fees. That’s pretty much it.

You can also mint and sell your NFTs on Magic Eden. You can get in touch with our Business Development team if you have a collection in mind! But even if you’ve minted your collection on a different launchpad, you can always list them on Magic Eden.

How do I mint my own NFT?
